Lakhs of youth from across the nation mobilised for the “Sansad Gherao” rally organized by the youth wing of the BJP under the leadership of its National President, Anurag Thakur. The rally was planned to proceed from Ramleela grounds towards Parliament with the slogan “Corrupt leaders, quit power”.
As the youth approached Jantar Mantar, they were stopped by the police. The police surrounded the protesters from all sides deploying lathi charge, tear gas and water cannons against them. Hundreds of youth were arrested and more than 40 were seriously injured. Thakur along with key aides was also manhandled and arrested by the police
